Sun Stand Still Life

Question for you. Have you ever read heroic stories from the Bible and wondered why your life isn’t like them? Have you ever thought about why you don’t see miracles like you remember learning about as a child in Sunday School? Have you ever said to yourself, “I want to be like those people in the Bible”? Have you ever heard stories from missionaries that talk about how whole towns and villages break out in a new life with God and wondered why Canton seems the same day to day? Have you ever heard people talk about how they’ve prayed and God answered immediately and you wonder why it seems God doesn’t hear you?

I have…and I do…nearly every day! I remember one friend telling me a second hand story of a missionary who baptized a local “medicine man” who was cut and bruised and beat up from fighting in a local tribal war. When he came up out of the water, he was completely healed. At the moment I hear that story, I thought to myself, “Why haven’t I ever seen God’s power like that?”

Joshua, when battling the Amorites, was watching the sun begin its trip into the western sky and realized that with darkness, his retreating enemy would be able to retreat and hide out for a new battle the next morning. He didn’t want to wait till next morning. He wanted the war done that day. The word “day” here becomes a loose definition of 24 hours. In fact, that day became a 48 hour day. Joshua looked up in the sky and prayed that the sun and moon would stand still so he could finish the battle that God had directed him to take. 24 more hours of daylight followed. You mean we can ask God to basically ask time to stand still so that He gets the glory for something we’re involved in? I am afraid to say anything else other than YES.

Two verses to leave with you today:

Jeremiah 33:3  Call out to me. I will answer you. I will tell you great things you do not know. You will not be able to understand them.”

Isaiah 30:18-2118 But the Lord longs to show you his favor. He wants to give you his tender love. The Lord is a God who is always fair. Blessed are all those who wait for him to act!

Let’s start praying “sun stand still” prayers.
