Reverend Billy Graham tells of a time early in his ministry when he arrived in a small town to preach a sermon. Wanting to mail a letter, he asked a young boy where the post office was. When the boy had told him, Dr. Graham thanked him and said, “If you’ll come to the Baptist Church this evening, you can hear me telling everyone how to get to heaven.”

The boy replied, “I don’t think I’ll be there… You don’t even know your way to the post office.”



From what I can tell, this is a true story. I can see it happening. I can picture a little boy saying something like that. I can also picture Billy Graham chuckling at the response. I think we all have heard of Billy Graham and have a mental picture of him and his character. We probably know what he might say if we were to ask him a question. His reputation really precedes him. His nature is not one of pride, but of humble confidence with an attitude of openness.


I truly believe there is something in all true Jesus followers that want to have that “persona” that Billy Graham has created for himself. Not that we want to be famous; we just want to be able to be known for that type of life.
