We Were Made for This!

2 Corinthians 9:8 (New International Reader’s Version)

 8 And God is able to shower all kinds of blessings on you. In all things and at all times you will have everything you need. You will do more and more good works.

  • Courage is fear that has said its prayers – Dorothy Bernard
  • Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
    thy rod and thy staff they comfort me – Psalms 23:4
  • I have not ceased being fearful, but I have ceased to let fear control me. -Erica Jong
  • Fear is that little darkroom where negatives are developed.– Michael Pritchard
  • “There is nothing to fear but fear itself … and Chuck Norris” (had to have a funny one in there)

What were we made for? Good question. This week we’re focusing on leadership. Leadership is easy to define. It is having influence on someone. Simple. You can be the leader of one or of many. If someone is following you or your ways or your influence, you are leading.

God wants us to be leaders. We may not be leaders like George Washington, or Joshua, or the Apostle Paul or Mother Theresa or Joyce Meyers, but we can all be leaders non the less. And…just to put this in your brain, some of you reading this are meant to be like those in the list above. I believe it!

Yes, we are sinful. Yes, we are weak in some areas. Yes, we will not succeed all the time. However, those things should never ever keep us from trying to be a blessing to other people. I believe that being a blessing to others means that we have influence over them. We can lead people to Heaven. We can’t carry them into Heaven…that will always be an individual’s choice…but we can always show people what it is and how to get there.

FEAR is the one thing that keeps us from influencing others. Whether it’s in our workplace, our family, our community, our home – wherever – fear holds us back. Fear is something that Satan uses against us. Fear of God is a good thing. But Satan will twist good fear, turn it on its head, and speak lies into our ears.

Have you ever wished you could be a leader like those you’ve read or heard about in the Bible? Have you ever dreamt of being one of those people that builds a huge business in the corporate world where you could give God all the glory and have people ask you about Him. I always think about things like this! What holds me back from doing great things for God like that? Chick-Fil-A comes to mind. That company seeps “Christianity” everywhere. Great service. Great food. Smiles from all employees. It’s creator gives all the Glory to God. I’m sure that there’s been many a person who looks at Chick-Fil-A and asks…with the intention of getting the answer…”What’s different about this place?” Truett Cathy, the owner, will tell you…it’s because he governs it like God would govern a business.

We want our life to count for something. We want to have dreams and prayers answered. We want to be a giant for God. We can be. We were made for it. We have been given all we need to do it. Fear stinks! It holds us back. We need to talk into fear’s face and say “Forget You!…I might fall short, I might not say the right words, I might make a mistake…but I’m gonna Do Something!”
